(9) This issue of 'BACKLASH' has a central theme dealing with the return of the 70s e.g. - attitudes, media hype, major label clampdown on underground music, the possible phasing out of vinyl etc. What are your views, if any, on the subject?

Chris: Fucking Sub-pop sucks my bleeding asshole!

Blake: Yuck.

Chris: This 70s retro-shit is pathetic. hell, I remember the 70s, don't you? All I remember is they sucked pretty hard. All you've got to do is watch 'Saturday Night Fever' --

Blake: I like that movie.

Chris: -- or listen to an Air Supply album and you'll see pretty much why. It's all just a fashion thing, what we're seeing isn't the 70s, it's some marketing-ploy interpretation of the 70s packaged for the 90s. Yeah, OK, maybe 'punk' or whatever was cooler or more open, it wasn't such a standardized thing... but, fuck, I don't know, what was I, 10? I was listening to fucking WINGS, what do I know? All I can say is I thought Kiss and Led Zeppelin sucked then, and if I hear them outside my window for an hour once more, I'm going to shoot the fucker who's playing it.

Blake: Yeah, just a couple of sensitive guys alright. I must interrupt. I, too, hate the retro-thing, but I feel confident that it'll burn itself out. And if people are into it, having fun, then that's their trip. I listened to a lot of rock in high school, punk rock and rock rock. And good rock is good rock to me. But I know what you mean.
